Known for its ‘milky’ tones and light appearance, Australian white opal is found in South Australian towns including Coober Pedy, Andamooka and Mintibie. These opals form within seams of white sandstone, giving them their distinct pale colour.Although distinguished by lighter tones and minimal colouring, white opals can also display an array of colours; a spectacle of bright reds, blues and greens.
White opals have gained popularity in recent years for their versatility, and make stunning centrepieces in gold and silver jewellery.
