Found in South Australia and New South Wales, crystal opals appear transparent, due to less sand impurity in the silica. They can either be ‘dark’ or ‘light’, and display magnificent, bright colours.
Crystal Opal is higher grade than white opal. Although they are extracted from the same regions, crystal opals tend to be more vibrant. Crystal opals have gained popularity in recent years for their versatility, and make stunning centrepieces in gold and silver jewellery.
